The Light in the Well

The Light in the Well
In those years,
the rigid order and silent air
taught me to hide myself,
to bury every pulse deep inside.
Because I looked gentle,
trouble kept falling from nowhere—
and I never explained,
never defended,
naively believing that suffering was a form of grace.
I didn’t belong.
So I learned to imitate
another version of me.
And somehow,
the mask began to breathe—
until it fused with my skin.
It felt like being thrown into a well,
talking to others only
about the sky visible from its mouth.
Every time I stood by the window,
I longed to see beyond the walls—
but once I stepped outside,
I realized the true prison
was never the wall,
but the mind that built it.
Each day I carried my sheet music
into the piano room
and locked the door.
That small room was the only place
where my soul could rest.
There, with music and my own bones,
I feared nothing.
